Stumps

...Stumps...
...all that is left of the Hazelnut trees...

...that grew in straight rows up and down this field...

...however...
they do not produce enough income to make it cost effective.
Most of the hazelnut farms have disappeared.

  1. That is sad. I love hazelnuts. And I love orchards of any kind. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

  2. what a shame. I had a piece of chocolate today with hazelnuts in it. Hadn't really thought about how they were produced...

  3. That's too bad about the hazelnut farms. I wonder what they will do with this land now?

  5. How tragic that everything we as humans try to accomplish seems to have ties to the almighty dollar. It's a shame they couldn't have been left to just grow on their own. And I love hazelnuts.

  6. But why cut the trees? :( How sad ... hazelnut is a common enough flavoring. I suppose that means most of the flavoring is artificial.
