Snowy Winter

Today, the first snowfall....

 

 

....of the season....

...how beautiful it is...

Red Barn

Perhaps not charming,

but attractive,  crisp, cheerful....

and a tractor to match....

 

...and reflective mud puddles....

Late afternoon yesterday,

the sun peaked out

for some precious moments....

with our Japanese Maple....

 

...Sparkling raindrops contrasting with

Cheam Range

Taken a couple of weeks ago,

when the sun was shining...

 

 

Mt. Cheam on the left

and Lady Peak...

Bracken Fern

 

I was intrigued by fading colour of this Bracken Fern

along the road....

 

...the creamy white

was a startling contrast

to the grey skies and dark forest.

Watery Party

 

We have had a lot of moisture recently.....

 

 

 

....but the Trumpeter swans

seem to love the puddles...

...I was amused by all the round bales...

and realized that there is still quite the stack of bales

Leaves

..A few lingering leaves...

Trumpeter Swans

 

 

Trumpeter swans come to visit the valley

every winter...

 

 

...where once they were

on the endangered list...

 

 

 

..now there are many...

 

 

 

and we enjoy their trumpet-like honk....

 

Waterfowl

 

The path lead us to the trout pond

in St Johns Conservation Area ( ON)...

 

 

...where these Canada  geese

make their home...

 

 

and the ducks,

when they watched me approach said, 

"We are out of here!"

Hardwood Forest

 

Like a monochrome...

 

 

...the foliage of the hardwood forest of

the St Johns Conservation Area, in

the Niagara Escarpment (ON)...

 

...creates a carpet

 on this heavily rooted trail.
