Reflections of an Icy Day

Rain and freezing temperatures
 make an interesting combination,
 ...create beautiful scenes
and dangerous situations.
Thankfully our power
remained on but many were without today.

Rich Colours

We enjoyed this gorgeous Sunset last evening,
before a change in weather this morning
brought a return to rain showers.
Awe inspiring!

Ferry Adventure

Off on an adventure,
boarding the Ferry to Vancouver Island.

With Mt. Baker in the distance,
we crossed the Strait of Georgia
and passed the returning ferry.
The weather was gorgeous, and we delighted in standing
on the bow of the ferry, with the frigid wind in our faces,
enjoying the gorgeous views of the narrow Active Pass
between the Gulf Islands.

A highlight was the sighting
of these playful Orcas in Active Pass.

Through the Fog

Heading west into Jasper National Park and into the fog, which
obscured the splendid mountains that we knew were hiding there.

And then the fog melted away and this is the vision we saw...

Beautiful Moods of Nature

A moody day in Jasper National Park,
with the low cloud and fog finally lifting,
but the weather can not subdue the mature colours of late summer.
Here we see glimpses of the Athabasca River,
which originates in the Rockies
and flows north into the Mackenzie River,
eventually draining into the Artic Ocean
many miles away.

Dominating the Landscape

Mt. Robson is a "must stop" every time we drive through the area.
I'm always enthralled by the stature of this majestic mountain,
less than an hour west of Jasper.
It is the highest peak of the Rocky mountains and the second highest mountain in BC (3,954m)

Summertime Ski Hill

Hemlock Valley is a small ski resort
in the Douglas ranges near Chehalis.
It was interesting to see the deserted ski hill in summer mode.
It was quiet, the views were wonderful
and the brightly, blooming wild flowers were gorgeous.

.Cheerful Blooms

Flower pots add a splash of colour to my garden
and I love the new varieties of Echinacea.
This one is a lovely cheerful red.

Along the River

.
Running across the dated train bridge,
I was amused at the aggressive blackberry plants creeping across the bridge even though the bridge is still in use.

The smoke was lifting and the skies were clearing,
the air fresher, making it easier to breathe.

Orange Moon

The particles of smoke in the evening sky
create a beautiful orange moon,
floating above the dark mountain shadow.
We have had a week of smoke filled skies.

Smoky Skies

Because of all the fires raging in BC,
we have been enveloped in smoky skies
which have been veiling the hot sun,
 giving a sense of eeriness.
Here the early morning sun attempts to brighten our day.
