Warm and Cold

 

Blustery warm winds,

 whipped the flags from the southwest on Thursday...

...straight from Hawaii...

 

...while today the freezing artic outflow winds

whip the flags from the north east,

frigid air straight from the Yukon.

Change is in the Air

 

Our country road a few weeks ago...

 

...still looking fairly lush and green....

 

Today, the leaves have all fallen

and winter is on the way.

(and my windshield is dirty  :  )

Faded and Fallen

 

Taken a few weeks ago,

these photos show the beautiful colour of the fall leaves...

 

...which have now faded and fallen,

buffeted by wind, rain and frost...

 

..but lovely while it lasted.  :  )

A young black bear sat down, doglike,

and watched us while we watched him

from the safety of the our back deck...

Dark October Morning

 

With the fall rains the morning  are dark...

 

..wet and misty,

...but we are cozy

inside a toasty warm home.  :  )

...draw a lot of attention in my garden

with their plate sized flowers....

 

...a wonderful addition to the late summer garden.

Rock Life

 

Final photos of Flood Falls....

 

....highlighting the beautiful rock formations

and colourful plants

that seem to thrive on the bare rock.

Brilliant Reflection

 

The eye catching  reflection

of the surrounding trees ....

 

....light up the pond below the Flood Falls.

Enchanting Falls

 

Today we went to see Flood Falls,

a short hike on a winding wooded path,

a short distance from the road.

 

The falls plunge 1200 feet in 9 distinct drops...

 

 

...but we could only see the bottom 250 feet.

 

The falls flow into a pond and then

the water quietly disappears into the ground.

I wonder where it goes?

Field of Fireweed

 

 

Running along a trail

high up on Vedder Mountain....

....between the tall dark trees,

we caught a glimpse of a beautiful field of pink fireweed ....

 

 

 

 

...in a logged clearing...

 

...with a view of the mountain range behind.
